A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND INDEED

Man is social being. He can not live alone. From time immemorial he has been living together. In his day to day life he keeps company with different class of people. He exchanges view and ideas with many men. But all men are not his true friend. It is very difficult to find a true friend. There are many men who pretend themselves to be our real friends when we live in prosperity. But when we are in danger, when misfortune befalls us these so called real friends take to their heels. Real friends are this who help us, share our weal and woe stand by us in times of need and danger. The test of real friends comes only in mistortune. True friends are not the cuckoo of the spring which does not come out in winter. Real friends never desert us when we are in dangers. They try to correct us when we go astray. To have a real friend is a blessing of God indeed.

WE LIVE IN DEEDS NOT IN YEARS

Man has no escape from the cruel clutches of death. He must roll down on the icy lap of death. But it matters little because life is not measured by months or years but by his noble deeds and actions. There is no citrus in a long life if it is only a long story of ill-spent years. A long life with an empty record is of little consequence and significance. So there can be no denying the fact that the value of a life does not depend on the number of years but upon the achievements that a man earns through his good deeds. This who live a long life without doing something beneficial to humanity are forgotten after their death. Their memory is not paid to their departed soul. No tombstone is erected on their grave. They die unsung and unhonoured. On the other hand the people who live a short life but render great services to humanity are honoured for ever by all. Those who sacrifice their lives for the good of the whole world are remembered to the end though they do not live in the midst of living men. So long the universe continues, so long the air blows, their memory is ever fresh and ever green and will remain ever fresh. Their name is written in gold letters in the pages of history. So it is clear that man does not live in years but in good deeds that he does fro the benefit of mankind.

THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRABLE RULES THE WORLD

The proverb stresses the influence of a mother on her child and through him on the world at large. Childhood is the most important formative period of a man’s life. During this time the mind is soft and pliable and can be moulded into any form one pleases. Therefore, the things that a child learns at home then take a firm root in him and determines his future course of action. And it goes without saying that this learning he gets mostly from his mother as he lives under her direct supervision and constant care. So, she exerts a great influence in the formation of her son’s character and in shaping his destiny. If a mother fails to bring up her child properly, the mother is held responsible for this failure, not the child. This failure may lead the child in the wrong path which will ultimately ruin the latent talents of the child. If her son becomes a great man, all the credit goes to mother. Therefore, every mother should be very much cautious of her son’s bringing up. She should not set any bad example before him. Rather she should inspire him with lofty ideals and noble purposes so that they may take a firm root in him and lead him to the peak of glory. So it can be said that it is a mother who plays a vital role in forming the character and deciding the future of a son.

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY

Honesty is a divine quality in man. It never goes unrewarded here and in the world hereafter. During the short sojourn upon earth it brings a man great glory an honour. He is the crown upon the society. He held in profound respect by all. He has peace of mind. He is maintains he honesty through thick and thin. Evil days may befall him but he never moves an inch from the right path of honesty. He is happy with what he has. He may not be well off but he is large hearted. An honest man never nourishes high ambition because he knows that high ambition leads a man astray. He is free from greed. No tempting offer can move him. An honest man is afraid of none because he has got the courage to defend himself. On the contrary a dishonest man can earn vast wealth and enjoy temporary worldly happiness, but he has no peace of mind. He is always bitten by the qualm of conscience. So the path of dishonest should be avoided. Rather the virtue of honesty should be cultivated from our very tender age. All should be encouraged to follow the path of honesty so that the world may turn into an abode of heavenly peace.

HEALTH IS WEALTH

Health is the most precious asset of man. A man of ill health is a burden to him. He finds no interest and joy in life. Life is dull and meaningless to him. He may possess vast wealth but his wealth can not bring happiness and mental peace for him. He may be intelligent and learned but his intelligence and learning are of no avail because he can not make a proper utilization and exploitation of them for his own sake or for the good of others. He is always peevish. He cannot enjoy the beautiful scenery and sight. On the other hand a man blessed with a good health is always happy and jolly. He is sober and sound. He does not lose interest in life. He does not lose his temper. He is agile in his movement and prompt in his action. He relished his food however poor it may be. He enjoys the beauties of nature to his heart content, derives much pleasure and remains happy and fresh. Again a sound mind lives in a sound body. We can not think of a sound mind without a sound health because body and mind go together. Illness of the one inevitably affects the other. Moreover, success in life depends on hard work and hard work is not possible to do without good health. Hard work needs energy and strength and it is a good health which provides a man with energy and strength. So a healthy man can attain success in life but it is quite opposite to a man of ill health. So health is wealth.

CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME

The saying bears a great importance. It teaches us a good moral lesson. It means that in helping others we should begin with our close relatives and friends. There are many people among us who care more for persons who are not their near and dear ones. They take it to be a sign of their generosity and kindness and feel proud of it. They ignore their own blood connected relatives and friends. They fight shy of them. They do not want to give the acquaintances of their poor relatives to others. But we should not forget that it is our moral obligation to help our poor relatives. Our poor relatives and friends expect something from us. When we are in prosperity, we should extend our kindness to them. We should share their sorrows and sufferings. We should try our main and might to lesson their distress because they took pains in bringing up us. If we can not feel for them first, we can not feel for others. If we do otherwise, it is like an act of trechery. The man who shows kindness not to his own relatives but to others only does so with a view to commanding other’s praise. But, in fact, he forfeits respect, name and fame.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

There is no uninterrupted blessings on earth. We may fall victim to many dangers in our way of life. We may be attacked with any disease at any time. But we can avoid any danger or get rid of a disease by taking timely steps. This very proverb teaches us this lesson. The proverb means that it is far better to prevent a disease than to cure it because what can not be prevented at first become very difficult for cure. Later on we all know that AIDS is a fatal disease to the whole human civilization. It is a great threat to human civilization. It is spreading like pestilence. It takes a heavy tool of life every year. Had preventive methods been adopted timely, it could not have spread so far. Now this disease is a death trap for all from which man has got no escape. At the beginning of the spread of this mortal disease we did not put importance to it but we should have put imphasis on it. But now not curing of AIDS is the main factor but the prevention. Similarly we should take timely action to prevent any mischief or corruption so that we do not have to pay dearly for the mischief or corruption so that we do not have to pay dearly for the mischief or corruption in future. Then we will be able to lead a healthy and happy life. We can dream of a better world.

THE PEN ISW MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD

The proverb means that the pen of the writer bears a greater importance and exercises an influence on men and the world than a military conqueror. Many great military men have conquered many states but their conquests have perished into the deep abyss of eternity. Their victories had little influence on the people of the world because a conquest by sword is not permanent. It can subdue the people but can not win their heart. People become oblivious of the conquest of an army man. A sword is a symbol of power but not of love. On the other hand the writings of the great writers leave an enduring impression in the heart of the people which can not be effected out. They are treasured up in human heart. The conquest of a military man is confined to certain on the people of the entire globe. With the passage of time the conquest of a military man melts into nothingness and is forgotten after his death.

THE OLD ORDER CHANGETH

Since the dawn of civilization time is flowing without any stop. That is why things are always changing. There is nothing permanent or stable in the world because change is the law of nature. What is new today grows old tomorrow. Childhood changes into youth and winter into spring. Thus our mode of living us quite different from our forefathers. Even today the thoughts, ideas and outlook of a modern man vary from an old man’s. As the civilization is progressing day by day, this change is becoming more and more rapid and market.

A PROCESSION

In a democratic country is the medium of expression of public opinion. Its purpose is to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to the rightful demand. However, a procession has become a common sight today. it is formal march of a group of people. It may be small or big. It is generally brought out on a political or religious or festive occasion. It starts from a fixed point and ends also at its destination which is previously declared. A procession is arranged in an orderly way. People take part in it in a disciplined way. They walk in a line chanting slogans. They carry placards, banners etc which exhibit their viewpoints to the common people. The leaders are seen at the head of the procession. They make eloquent speech keeping up their purpose in mind at the end of the procession. Sometimes there is violence and for this the police are seen behind a political procession. The police do so in order to avert any kind of violence or untoward incident. A procession is, in fact, an expression of public opinion.

A TEACHER

A teacher is an architect of a nation. He is an asset to a country. He plays an important role in building up an educated nation. He dispels the darkness of ignorance from the lot of a nation and floods the light of education. A good teacher is one of the most important persons in any country. He is an actor, so to speak. He has to suit his act according to the need of his audience which is his class. He is able to hold the attention and interest of his students. He is a clear speaker with good, strong pleasing voice which is under his control. He does not sit motionless before his class. He walks about using his arms, hands and fingers to help him in his explanations and his face to express his feelings.

He makes lessons interesting to the students. He keeps his students awake. He makes them confident and proves them clever. Everybody has something valuable inside him. A good teacher discovers the treasure hidden inside each student. He also wants the students happy and for this he keeps them busy. A good teacher never hankers after money. His only thought is how he could present the nation a good citizen.

MAN IS BORN FREE BUT EVERYWHERE HE IS CHAINED

When a man is born, he is quite free. He is free from all sorts of bondages. He enjoys absolute freedom. The more he grows in years, the more does he find himself in chains? In his infancy, he can not support himself. So he depends on his mother. When he grows up, he can not do whatever he likes. He is to respect other’s right. He is to show obedience to social codes. He is to maintain the law and order of the society. His movements are restricted. In his youth he is very restless. He wants to spend much of his time in games and sports. He wants to pass this golden period of time in merriment. But he can not do so. He is to attend schools or colleges. He has to concentrate his mind to studies. After successful completion of his studies, he is on the look out for a good job. There he faces the hard realities of life. He shoulders the responsibility of maintaining his own family. He looks after his old parents grappling with death. As a citizen of the state he obeys the civic laws. If he transgresses any law, he is put to disgrace. In matters of religion he lives in harmony with others. After all these, man hankers after a life of ease, comfort and freedom. But the cruel reality does not allow him to lead a life free from all social chains. So it can be said that man comes to earth freely but after his birth he is chained everywhere.

UNITY IS STRENGTH

Unity is a great quality of human being. It is of great value in every walk of life. It enables us produce a result conducive to the common good. No single person can do what is to be done by several persons united. The real strength lies in unity. If all the members of a family are united and work for its good, it is sure to prosper. But if they are disunited, the family will never see the light of prosperity. Similarly no nation can continue as a free and independent one if its citizens are disunited. We lost our independence in the battle of palassey because we were not united. Again it was this unity among the people of our dear Bangladesh in their fight against the brutal Pakistani army that enabled them to snatch away the red rose of independence. So it is clear that if the citizens of a poor small country are united, they are able to defend the aggression of any powerful state. They are able to defend any foreign invasion. For example, Germany, in spite of its mighty power, could nod smash Britain in the First and Second World Wars because the British people were united. So it is clear that unity is strength and its leads to success.

DRUG ADDICTION

Drug addiction is now a global problem. This social cancer has spread its poisonous claws all over the world. It has grasped not only the young generation of the developed countries but also the young generation of the poor countries. Frustration is the cause of this addiction. Unemployment problem, political cataclysm, lack of family ties, lack of love affection etc give rise to frustration. Again this addiction gives rise to social crimes. When the addicted can not laggard to buy drugs they commit many kinds of social crimes like hijacking, looting, killing, robbery etc. once the frustrated youths taste any kind of drug, they are caught in this death trap for ever. They can not get out of this trap. Drugs bear a terrible effect on human body. They kill them slowly but surely. No physician can stop the changes that take place in the body or a drug addict. Drugs addicted people feel drowsy, lose appetite and sleep. The skin of their bodies begin to change its colour. Drugs also damage the brain and all internal function of the body. At any cost we must get rid of this social cancer by highlighting its dangers effect on human body and society.

INDISCRIMINATE USE OF LOUD-SPEAKERS

Now-a-days the indiscriminate use of loud-speakers has become a fashion. It is a common feature of modern age. It is used in way-side shops, in cinema halls and on ceremonial occasion. It is used in season and out of season. It is disturbing and annoying. The indiscriminate use of loud-speakers disturbs not only normal work but also creates an atmospheres of noise and annoyance. The owners care little whether their neighbors are pleased or annoyed. The students are the worst sufferers as they fail to concentrate their attention to studies. The owners entirely forget that the educational institutions, offices, hospitals and other organizations are situated on the streets and that silence is very life of these institutions. Sometimes they also lose their civic sense and cause troubles to the bed ridden patients and to the persons offering prayers. It hampers our day’s peace and even night’s sleep after the hard labour of the day. It is impossible to get a wink of sleep at night. It is nerve-cocking and after a sleepless night nobody can do an honest day’s work. Her is not end. The indiscriminate use of loud-speakers hider cool thinking. It pollutes the environment. The owners blare out nothing but cheap film songs which are very much destructive for the young boys and girls. These very states and obscene songs are attractive to them. The passers-by also feel disturbed. This very nerve-breaking veritable nuisance should be st0pped at once.

RUSH IN TRAINS

It needs no telling that Bangladesh is an over populated country. Her population is increasing in an alarming rate. In comparison with the population the number of trains is very small. So rush in trains is a quite familiar scene in Bangladesh. All the trains are overcrowded. As soon as a train comes in the platform, the passengers start a struggle to get into the train so that they can reach their destinations by availing the train. The passengers rush, run and jump into the compartments become jam packed with passengers and loads. Sometimes the rush becomes so heavy that a large number of passengers do not find any seat in the benches. Often they find no space to stand. So they get upon the root of the train at the risk of their own lives. Again some hang on the door and some in the toilets. As women can not sit on the roof, they sit on the buffers. They do so under compulsion to reach their destination. The miseries of the passengers can not be described in words. They Rain Way Board should take proper measures to increase the number of train and put an end of the sufferings of the passengers. So they get upon the root of the train at the risk of their own lives. They do so under compulsion to reach their destination. The miseries of the passengers can not be described in words. They Rain Way Board should take proper measures to increase the number of train and put an end of the sufferings of the passengers. So they get upon the root of the train at the risk of their own lives.
